circle mission:

The mission of the Food Access & Nutrition Circle is to support and promote access to healthy, affordable food for Wake County residents. Members of the circle collaborate on policies and programs related to food pantries and food relief programs, community gardens, and nutrition.

Current Activities

  • Implementing strategies from the Food Security Plan for 2023 that expand access to mobile market and farmers markets

  • Increase accessibility and cultural acceptability of food pantries

  • Advocating for local policies, like SNAP, that support food security

Community Garden Study and List

In November 2017, CAFN sought to build a comprehensive list of Wake County community gardens and learn about their practices and challenges. The full list of gardens can be found on Wake Network of Care and a summary report can be found here.

Food Pantry Study and List

In order to increase food access in the county, CAFN confirmed that over 80 food pantries are operating in the county as of March 2018. The pantry locations and requirements are now listed on Wake Network of Care. A summary of the study results can be read here.

Food Plan Progress Meetings

Food Access Circle hosts quarterly meetings that convene the 40+ leaders involved with the Wake County Food Security Plan. These events help us highlight success stories and find gaps in service.
